About the material
What HPL compact laminate is made of
The base of compact laminate is formed by numerous layers of kraft paper impregnated with thermosetting phenolic resin. The outer surfaces are formed by decorative patterned paper impregnated with melamine resin. Under high temperature and pressure, the whole stack is pressed into a dense, monolithic board — with no chipboard core. EGGER offers ready-made worktop surfaces 12 mm thick; Fundermax has a wider range of formats and thicknesses, so the working execution is chosen according to the project and the available range. Kronospan Slim Line is a range of thin HPL countertops: the decor name states the colour of the board's core (White / Grey / Black Core), which is visible on the edge and works as part of the pattern.
