White kitchen furniture: which white to choose
White reflects light and makes a kitchen look more open, which is why it works in a small apartment kitchen and in a large family one alike. Marks are less visible on it than on the dark matt shades of painted MDF, and the kitchen stays tidy for longer. But white is not one material or one shade: what the front is made of, and what goes next to it, decides how the kitchen behaves in the light and how much upkeep it needs every day.
Painted MDF
We paint MDF the white the kitchen needs: cool, warm or lightly tinted. Decorative milling — abstract patterns, frames, lines — is cut into the panel before painting, so the face, the edge and the relief all take the same colour. On a smooth front we mill a grip into the edge instead of a relief.
FENIX
FENIX has a deep matt surface on which fingerprints are less noticeable, and small surface scratches can be repaired with heat. The palette is limited to ready-made shades, but white is among them — we offer it when the kitchen calls for a matt white with no sheen.
What to pair white with
White fronts are rarely left on their own. We recommend solid wood in dry zones: in the Helen project the dining table joined to the island is made of it — wood gives the kitchen a warm tone and a grain that white does not have. Quartz and ceramic suit a white front: an even tone, or the veining of stone beside a smooth plane.
Light
We always light the working zone with a neutral white LED strip, 4000 K, in an aluminium profile — the light falls evenly, with no visible dots. In a white kitchen this shows most clearly: under warm lighting a white surface turns yellowish. In neutral light it stays white in the evening too.
