Ordering a kitchen in Tallinn: what to check before signing
We take a kitchen step by step: first the measuring, then the design, then production and installation. At each step there is something worth finding out in advance — where the design starts, what the drawing covers, which day the lead time is counted from, and what has to be ready in the room by installation day.
Measuring
The design starts in the room, not on paper. Our specialist takes the exact measurements, looks at where the water, the ventilation and the electrics run, and writes down what will later decide the layout: a projecting wall, the height of the windowsill, the side the door opens to. Measuring takes from twenty minutes to an hour, and we travel across Estonia.
Design
From the measurements we prepare the design: a three-dimensional view, detailed drawings and a costing. Preparing it takes one to two weeks. We make changes for as long as the design is not approved — at this step the layout, the materials and what goes inside the cabinets still move freely. The approved drawing is what the kitchen is then built from.
Materials
In the design every surface has its material and its article number named. Painted MDF gives an even colour and a smooth surface, veneer leaves the grain of real wood on the front, and stone and ceramics hold the worktop where the water and the heat are. The mechanisms are Blum hardware. By signing it is not “a light kitchen” that is known, but a particular colour, a particular board and a particular stone.
Lead times
Production takes five to seven weeks, and in the busiest months up to twelve. The clock starts not at the first conversation but at the prepayment and the written confirmation of the technical details, and the contract carries a specific date. Until production has started, anything can be changed — materials, dimensions, hardware. Every change is put in writing, with the date recalculated.
Installation
By installation day the room has to be ready: the finishing done, water and electricity in place, access for the van and somewhere to unload the furniture. The crew assembles the kitchen in one to three days. Connecting the appliances and bringing out the utilities are counted separately — worth agreeing in advance, so that installation day and connection day do not come apart.
After installation
The warranty covers production defects, the working of the mechanisms and the edging: if something has come apart or stopped closing, we come out and repair it. We service kitchens after the warranty has ended too — adjusting, replacing parts.
Come to the showroom
The showroom has the fronts, the worktops and the mechanisms that carry an article number in the design. The colour and the surface can be seen close up, and a drawer can be pulled open by hand. Come and look — and bring the plan of the room if you already have one.
